Corrlinks makes it possible for people to conveniently communicate with their friends or family members who are incarcerated. At its core, it is an email delivery service. Therefore, through the Corrlinks service, people are able to send email messages to their loved ones who are incarcerated. Through the Corrlinks service, people are also able to receive email messages from their loved ones who are incarcerated.
How www.corrlinks.com came to be
The Corrlinks service seems to have come into being when the United States Bureau of Prisons switched from what was previously simply known as federal prison email, around the year 2009. In some ways, the Corrlinks service is an improvement on what was previously referred to as the federal prison email service. The Corrlinks service is as a result of a fruitful partnership between the correctional institutions and a private service provider known as Advanced Technologies Group (ATG).
How the www.corrlinks.com service works
The Corrlinks service works under a system where inmates are allowed access to prison computers, on which they can read and send emails. In this regard, the Corrlinks service — which is regarded as an ‘official’ prison email service – is different from ‘commercial’ prison email services. The latter invariably operate in such a way that the email messages send to inmates have to be printed, and the printouts then handed to the inmates. But with the Corrlinks service, the inmates access the email messages directly on prison computer terminals, though (at a small fee) they can still print them out. Worth noting is the fact that the Corrlinks service makes it possible for inmates to communicate via email, without actually giving them (the potentially risky) complete access to the Internet.
How to use the www.corrlinks.com service
To use the Corrlinks service, people have to visit the Corrlinks website, create accounts there, and then add the inmates they wish to be communicating with. Once the accounts are set up, they have to be verified, and then funded using either Visa or MasterCard.
The cost of the www.corrlinks.com service
The cost for using the Corrlinks service will depend on the agreements that exist between the incarceration institutions and the service providers. There are, for instance, some federal prisons that are connected to TRULINCS, and for those, the service is basically free. Now some state prisons in places like Iowa, Minnesota and Oklahoma allow inmates to use the service, at a fee. These are scenarios where people wanting to send messages to inmates pay as much (or as little) as $0.30 per message: which is still cheaper and more convenient than using snail mail.
Types of prisons in which the www.corrlinks.com service is available
The Corrlinks email service is available in most federal prisons under the Bureau of Prisons (BoP). There are also some state prisons that avail the Corrlinks service to their inmates, at a fee.
